Can I have a bank account if I am bankrupt?

Published in Debt Advice Features on Sunday, December 03 2006 by Open Doors Money

It is always recommendable to change bank account.

This is because, for example if you have a debt on a credit card with a bank, and have money in your bank account that you have with them, when you go bankrupt the bank would almost certainly take the money from your account to satisfy part or all of the debt. You will be able to get another bank account whilst in Sequestration, although this is at the discretion of the bank and will almost certainly only be a basic bank account.
