Do I have to attend all meetings involved in organising an Individual Voluntary Arrangement?

Published in Debt Advice Features on Sunday, December 31 2006 by Open Doors Money

Although you can attend any meetings that take place, for example the Meeting of CreditorsӔ, where the creditors vote on accepting or declining your IVA, you certainly don’t have to.

In fact it is the norm not to. Even your creditors may not attend, and instead they may just fax their decision to accept or decline and any terms or conditions they want to impose shortly before the meeting. Whilst your Individual Voluntary Arrangement is being arranged by the Insolvency Practitioner, they will usually correspond with you via the telephone and in writing. They will need to communicate with you whilst it is being set up, but this is not required to be in person.
